Urbanization is taking over the Globe. Therefore, we need to figure out how to incorporate nature within the cities for it to survive.
“Green areas within cities that are cut-off from each other are useless for biodiversity.“ – a biologist from Kolding municipality in Denmark told us.
Furthermore, the intensive upkeeping of green areas in the city is also contributing to the decline of local ecosystems. Nature patches are frequently mowed and local wild plants are removed as unwanted weeds.
Our field research showed that individuals are skeptical towards letting nature be uncontrolled in areas they use. Also, city municipalities often down-prioritize nature areas to, for example, parking lots.
We created structures for modular system that connects green areas that are otherwise cut-off by urban infrastructure. This network runs along an existing urban layout.
Our design goes around this challenge with a solution that merges the human world with the nature world, yet gives own space to both.
